What if we thought about workplace conflict the same way we think about health as an analogy?
Most organisations already have systems for when things go seriously wrong. But the more interesting question is what happens much earlier.
A useful continuum might look like this:
- Leadership / culture = doctors, healthy lifestyle and preventative care
- Psychological safety = general resilience and a healthy immune system
- SpatzAI = vaccination / early immune response
- Mediation = treatment
- Formal grievance / HR investigation = intensive care
- Emergency intervention, suspension or separation = life support
The analogy is not perfect, but it helps clarify the different roles.
Good leadership matters. Good culture matters. Psychological safety matters. They can reduce risk, encourage people to speak up, and help leaders detect problems earlier.
But doctors do not usually develop the vaccines they administer.
Vaccines are developed in research environments, tested, refined and then placed into the hands of practitioners who use them as part of a broader system of care.
That is closer to how I see SpatzAI.
Leadership remains responsible for the health of the team, just as doctors remain responsible for patient care. But leaders should not have to invent a new behavioural intervention process every time someone says or does something objectionable.
SpatzAI provides a prepared process that is years in development,
but is yet to be properly tested in workplace teams:
Verbal Caution…………………………………………………………………..Resolved or escalate
Caution – SpatzChat App………………………………………………..Resolved or escalate
Object – SpatzChat App…………………………………………………..Resolved or escalate
Stop – SpatzChat App & Spatz Team + AI Review……….Resolved or escalate
There is also an important economic point.
Vaccines can be expensive to develop. But once an effective vaccine exists, distributing it across a population can scale far cheaper and safer than treating large numbers of serious cases.
The same logic applies here.
Developing SpatzAI requires investment in the framework, technology, review process, AI and evidence base trials. But once developed, the marginal cost of giving another team member access to that process can be relatively small.
Compare that with the downstream cost of unresolved behaviour: management time, lost productivity, absenteeism, mediation, turnover, formal grievances, investigations, compensation and legal action.
The aim is not to create perfectly behaved workplaces.
It is to help teams recognise and respond to behavioural problems before they spread.
Most organisations already have the standard treatment, intensive care and life support.
SpatzAI is designed to help teams build that early immune response, before the small stuff becomes toxic.
