SpatzAI: Psychological Safety PPE

The Psychological Safety PPE

Talking about a safety for a worker’s head does not bring safety.

Wearing an approved helmet correctly does.

In the same way, talking about psychological safety does not create safety.

Putting protections in place does.

A hard hat is not a feeling. It is a practical protection against a known hazard when worn.

I think psychological safety should be treated the same way. It is not created by speeches, slogans, workshops, or encouragement alone. It is created when teams have practical systematic protections in place, such as ways to hold team member and managers to account, an open and transparent way to ensure issues are fairly resolved, agreed behavioural standards, and a fair way to address, in real-time, when these behavioural standards are infringed upon.

Without these protections, psychological safety can become a slogan with no PPE.

SpatzAI is designed as a kind of psychological safety PPE system for teams.

It gives team members a simple, pre-agreed way to address and object to objectionable behaviour in real time.

A team member can issue a verbal Caution (minimal objection) when something feels off. If the caution is challenged or ignored, the issuer can move it to an Objection using the SpatzChat app. If still unresolved, their conflict can move to a Stop using the Spatz Team + AI Review process..

That means safety is not left floating in the air as a good intention. It is supported by a visible and real-world process.

People are not merely told to speak up. They are protected by an agreed procedure when speaking up becomes difficult.

That is the missing layer, in my view.

Psychological safety is the feeling.

PPE provides the protections.

SpatzAI provides the system layer.
