Speaking Up vs Talking Down

Human expression is a fundamental aspect of our existence.
Speaking up, at its core, represents an intrinsic part of our nature, a vehicle through which we engage with the world.

The act of voicing one’s thoughts and concerns is a practice deeply ingrained in our history, spanning countless generations. However, a notable challenge that has persisted is the tendency to be subdued by so-called authoritative figures, encompassing parents, educators, employers, and governments.

Central to the purpose of speaking up is the potential to bridge disparities and harmonize perspectives, ultimately alleviating uncertainty that may arise. In other words reaching agreements or a consensus. This noble endeavor, however, often finds itself obstructed by certain individuals assuming an authoritarian stance (often exemplified by the loudest and most dogmatic voice), especially when confronted with differing viewpoints.

In moments of disagreement, a perceptible heated shift in demeanor becomes apparent – furrowed brows, escalating volume, and raised tones are just initial indicators of this transformation.

Hence, the pathway to achieving resolution and collaboration extends beyond the so-called establishment of a “speaking up culture.” Rather, it entails designing and creating a “structure” for those who wish to have constructive discourse, protecting participants from any violations during the resolving process, allowing them to be addressed in real-time.

Think, referee’s whistle, yellow and red cards.
We use SpatzAI for this process.
