Introducing the Spatz Team Cohesion Index – TCI

Much of the conversation on LinkedIn about workplace culture treats it as something that flows from the top down, with leadership acting as the primary governing force.

At SpatzAI, we take a different view and have built a different framework.

We believe in putting our faith in teams, as we think they can rise to the occasion when given the right environment.

The environment Spatz provides is a simple, agreed-upon framework where team members can caution early, respond fairly, escalate transparently, and resolve minor behaviour issues before they escalate into more serious conflict.

That is why SpatzAI does not simply talk about culture, we measure the behaviour that creates it.

The Spatz Team Cohesion Index is a behavioural measure of how well a team handles minor objectionable behaviour before it escalates into unresolved friction, spats, disputes, or eventually serious conflict.

It does not measure whether a team has disagreements.

It measures how well the team handles micro-conflicts during disagreements: ie, when someone’s behaviour becomes problematic or objectionable.

The Spatz TCI asks the following practical questions:

  1. How many verbal cautions were issued?
  2. How many were acknowledged?
  3. How many escalated to formal cautions or objections, using the SpatzChat app?
  4. How many escalated to stops and Team + AI reviews?
  5. How much time it took for issues to be resolved?
  6. How many team members are actively using Spatz?
  7. Does the team accept the referee’s decisions during review?

Over time, across meetings and teams, these patterns become visible.

A high team cohesion score does not mean a team is quiet, compliant, or conflict-free.

It means the team has developed the behavioural discipline to address small issues early, fairly, and transparently.

Low team cohesion may indicate avoidance, repeated behaviour, poor acknowledgment, slow repair, or lack of trust in the review process.

This is where SpatzAI turns culture from a vague statement into observable behaviour.

Because the real test of team cohesion is not how people behave when everything is easy.

The real test is how a team member behaves when someone says:

“Caution.”

And everyone knows exactly what happens next.
