For me, there is nothing wrong with “attacking” an idea, during a disagreement. However, it is when we unfairly challenge the person with the idea that it becomes a problem.
But even attacking the person unfairly is allowed, as long as there is an agreed procedure to address such misbehavior.
In a soccer match it is not the end of the world when a player makes an unfair challenge upon a player with the ball (not many take the ball and go home). These infringements or fouls happen some 25 to 30 times during a game. The referee simply blows her whistle and a freekick is awarded. Or if the behavior persists the referee can escalate the violation to a yellow or red card.
We can do something similar during our disagreements, I believe.
I have designed a procedure, app and team-assisted review platform based on this principle, called SpatzAI.com
